On the feast day of the Myrrh-bearing Women and Righteous Joseph with Nikodemus, the Cathedral marked the celebration of the heavenly intercessors of the Sisterhood as well as the Brotherhood with a Paschal procession with the Cross and a short molieben service with singing of "Many Years" following the Divine Liturgy. The the services, as per recent tradition, the Brotherhood prepared a celebreatory banquet for the Cathedral Sisterhood.
JUNIOR CHOIR CONCERT
On Sunday, May 4th, the "junior choir" of the Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral which consisted of ten children from the parish Russian School took part in a joint concert at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Cathedral. The concert was given on the slava (name day) of the Serbian cathedral choir - the Serbian Singing Society Branko Radichevich Choir - whose patron saint is the Great-Martyr St. George. At the celebratory luncheon, performances by the Russian junior choir under the direction of Natalia Gill who has been working with the children at our school and by the "Jr. Brankies" under the direction of Jovan Anicic delighted the audience with their enthusiasm and clear voices. All present agreed that it was beautiful to see a new generation of singers demonstrate their talent in the spirit of pan-Orthodox cooperation between two neighboring cathedrals and agreed that this should continue to be fostered and possibly expanded among other churches in the area.
FEAST OF THE ASCENSION
Although we celebrated the leave-taking of the joyous Paschal season, as Bishop Peter stated in his sermon during the All-night Vigil on the feast of the Ascension, separation from someone you love is often sad, but the Apostles did not grieve over their separation from Jesus Christ, but rather rejoiced in the promise of the Holy Spirit to come.
At the Divine Liturgy, concelebrating with His Grace were the Cathedral clergy as well as Fr. Vasyl Kuzmych ofHoly Trinity Church in Milwaukee and Fr. John Sykaluk of St. Vladimir's in Rock City. After the Great Entrance, Bishop Peter ordained deacon Edward Batchko to the priesthood. Fr. Edward's wife, four children, mother and mother-in-law were in attendance for the Festal services.
Fr. Edward, who recently graduated from St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary (OCA), will be serving the Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America as rector at the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God parish in Edgar, Wisconsin. We wish him many years in his service to the Lord's church in his new assignment. AXIOS!

PILGRIMMAGE TO SAN FRANCISCO
On the weekend of June 28-29th, several members of our parish travelled to the Holy Virgin Cathedral in San Francisco for the 20th anniversary celebration of the glorificatino of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco. At these services, the assembly of hierarchs of the Russian Church Abroad was present and consecrated a new bishop. The faithful were blessed by the presence of the relics of St. John which were placed in the middle of the church for the festal services.
OPENING OF ORPR CAMP
On Saturday, July 5th, the Orthodox diocesan summer camp (ORPR) opened at 12 PM with a molieben and raising of the flags. Earlier in the day, parents brought their children and with the help of the staff, got them set up in their respective cabins. After lunch, the children said their goodbyes to their parents and although there might have been a few tears, these were quickly forgotten as they were off to their next activity. The camp operates for 4 weeks and during the session, children are busy with handicrafts, singing, dancing, sports and swimming. They attend Sunday church services and feast days and are given religious education classes by resident clergy. This year, 70 children were enrolled with many others waitlisted due to the camp being completely full.
