PASTORAL SCHOOL GRADUATION
On June 7/20, 2015 the Pastoral School of Chicago and Mid-America marked its ninth annual graduation. Before Vigil at the Diocesan Cathedral of the Protection of the Mother of God in Des Plaines, IL three students received their diplomas in Pastoral Theology (title of thesis in parentheses):
- Deacon Nicholas Olsen (“Establishing an Authentic Orthodox Culture in America”)
- Michael Diaz de Leon (“The Hebrew Calendar Reform: Impact and Implications for Orthodox Calendar Reform”)
- and our parishioner and singer Vesselin Krastsev (“A Brief History of Byzantine Monasticism”)
Earlier that day the students had defended their theses and successfully passed oral exams before a board consisting of His Grace Bishop Peter of Cleveland (President of the School), Archpriest Andre Papkov (Vice President of the School), Archpriest Martin Swanson (Dean Emeritus of the School) and Archpriest Gregory Joyce (Dean of the School).
WHERE ARE ALL THE CHILDREN?
You might have noticed this past Sunday that many of our children were absent. On July 4th, the ORPR diocesan camp opened with 75 children in attendance from all over the diocese. The children sleep in cabins, enjoy the fresh air, sing songs around campfires and learn about their fatih with children from other parishes in the midwest. We present the photoalbum below from the first few days of camp as a taste of the various activites in camp.

ST SAVA ACADEMY LEADERS MEET WITH BISHOP PETER
Senior representatives of Saint Sava Academy, Principal Marko Bojovic and Board President Nenad Djordjevic, met with His Grace Bishop Peter informing him of plans for the upcoming school year, curriculum enhancements, and enrollment trends, particularly noting the increase in students in the Academy's Russian-language program as part of the overall growth in the student body.
Bojovic and Djordjevic also expressed the Academy's deep gratitude for Bishop Peter's strong support of the Academy's mission and Orthodox education, and presented Vladika with a commemorative certificate of appreciation.
Established in 2001, Saint Sava Academy is an accredited PreK-8 elementary school at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, offering dual-language education in either Serbian or Russian language tracks, in an Orthodox Christian environment. Last year, the academy graduated two students from our parish.
