Bishop Peter in Belgrade

On January 20, Bishop Peter travelled to Belgrade as an official representative of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, participating as an observer in the selection and enthronement of the new Serbian Patriach succeeding His Grace, Patriarch Pavle of blessed memory.  Chosen was the Bishop of Nish, Irinej to be the next Patriarch of Serbia.  On January 23 in St. Sava Cathedral in Belgrade, the enthronement took place attended by Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine as well as by the Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and a host of clergy from Serbia and other Orthodox countries.  On January 27, Vladika Peter served Divine Liturgy on the feast of St Sava with His Grace, Metropolitan Mitrofan of Eastern America.  Of note, Bishop Peter had studied at the Belgrade Theological School many years ago and continues to maintain close ties to classmates, many of whom have themselves become clergy and hierarchs in the Orthodox Church of Serbia.
